Saturday Field Trips

There will be a choice between two field trips:

Southeast Blue Mountains (Umatilla NF): Travel from Pullman to Clarkston, then south to Asotin and Anatone. Northwest from Anatone about 8 miles to Umatilla National Forest. Notable plants: Penstemon pennellianus, P. deustus, P. attenuatus, P. fruticosus and likely P. glandulosus. Beautiful view and many other flower species.
Trip Leaders: Nan Vance and Mark Darrach. 

Palouse summits and Idaho: Kamiak Butte (short hike) then to Idler's Rest and Moscow Mountain (short hike) and back to Pullman.  Potential Penstemon species: Penstemon globosus, P. attenuatus, P. procerus, P. confertus, P. wilcoxii).

Sunday Field Trip (full day, one field trip)

There will be a choice between two field trips:

Asotin to Clearwater Lookout on summit of Blue Mountains: Travel from Pullman to Clarkston to Asotin, follow Asotin Creek Road to Lick Fork (P. venustus), then to Bracken Ridge (P. deustus “Blue Mtn phase”). Travel to USFS boundary (P. glanulosus) then to the summit by the Devil's Eyebrow (P.attenuatus and other species like Paeonia brownii). Next stop is Clearwater lookout tower (P. pennellianus). Possibly P. fruticosus var. serratus along the way.

Snake River area: short day- trek down Snake River to foothills of Lime Hill (south of confluence of Grande Ronde and Snake) and Petroglyph site at Nez Perce Historical Park. Penstemon species: P. triphyllus.
